TW Boys Basketball Rec League Description

The Tri-West Boys' Basketball program offers a recreational basketball league for BOYS in grades 2-6 who attend schools in the Northwest Hendricks School Corporation. This league is intended to teach the basic skills of basketball while still giving players an opportunity to have fun playing the game of basketball.

Months: January-February (due to a lack of gym time in the corporation)

*The girl's rec league runs November-December

Practices: Practices run once a week for one hour throughout the season and are league-wide practices, not individual team practices.

Age Groups: 2nd Grade Division, 3rd/4th Grade Division, 5th/6th Grade Division

Games: All games are played either at North Salem Elementary or Pittsboro Elementary School.

*This year we are anticipating smaller numbers of players in the Rec league due to an increase of travel teams in the program. We believe that the 2nd grade should have plenty of players; however, there MAY be smaller numbers in grades 3-6. Therefore, in anticipation of this we are offering an alternative IF numbers are too small to designate normal 4 vs. 4 or 5 vs. 5 teams.

Alternative (If numbers below 30 players in a grade division):

-IF numbers are below 30 in a grade division (3rd/4th or 5th/6th), we will play 3 vs. 3. There are a number of benefits to small-sided games such as 3 vs. 3.

1. It allows more opportunity to touch the basketball.

2. It creates better spacing for more cutting and dribbling.

3. It allows us to have multiple teams still as opposed to 3-4 teams in a division.

*A number of basketball programs across the state have went to 3 vs. 3 at younger ages simply for some of the reasons I posted above. In fact, our girls' program has moved to all 3 vs. 3 games in Rec. As the registration opens and players start to register, we will be transparent with you as parents as to whether or not we will have to move to this alternative, small-sided games.

Director: Head Varsity Basketball Coach Adam Bontreger organizes and directs the league
